Definitions

Marma : Vital points in the body where muscle tissues, blood vessels, ligaments, nerves, bones and joints meet. Life currents concentrate here. By stimulating the marma points nearest to, or those which are related to the affected part, the life current located at these points is activated and this helps restore normalcy.

Lepam : A medicinal plaster which cleanses and reduces inflammation

Hasthabhyangam & Padabhyangam

Like reflexology, these involve treatment of the hand and foot. A scrub is performed using a mixture of herbs and lentil flour to remove dead skin and improve circulation. It is followed by massage of the palms, wrists, soles and ankles.
These treatments are performed on a chair.

  Hasthabhyangam

Heals the entire body and releases tension in the hands and feet. Also smoothens cracked skin of the feet and induces deep sleep by soothing/cooling the eyes.

Abhyangam

This full-body massage focuses on maximum penetration of herbal oils and release of muscular tension. It is followed by a steam bath and a hot shower.
Abhyangam is a basic step that stimulates and rejuvenates various body systems. This increases the effectiveness of any other treatment taken as part of an overall program.
It has more enduring effects than a massage using mineral oils and lotions. Abhyangam heals by harmonizing body, mind and spirit.

Marma Abhyangam

This is a full-body massage that restores balance through marma vital energy points. It is at these points where massage can most effectively rebalance the system for optimum health.
Enhances longevity by ensuring the proper balance and flow of hormones, emotions, fluids and immune factors.

Shiro Abhyangam / Shiro Lepam

A comprehensive therapy of the central nervous system which involves a soothing massage of the head, neck, shoulder and spine.
Shiro Lepam is an extension treatment with the application of herbal steam and herbal paste on the head.
These treatments are performed on a chair.

  Shiro Lepam

For headache, depression, hyperactive conditions, burning-sensation in the eyes, insomnia, skin disorders, dandruff, premature graying and hair loss. Also increases concentration and improves sleep.

Udvartanam

This incorporates a massage focused on releasing toxins, followed by application of a purifying herbal compound that gets through the skin into the blood-stream. Afterwards toxins are 'sweated out' through steam/sweat therapy and then a flower or milk lotion is applied to clean and nourish the body.

Excellent for weight reduction. Also for cellulite, itching/dryness and toning the skin/muscle after child birth/weight loss.

Shiro Dhara

Oil/other liquids are poured in a continuous stream onto the forehead from a hanging vessel, while a gentle massage is given on the face and head. This treatment is quite powerful in its ability to relieve emotional and physical tension by working on the 'Third eye' (the center of the forehead and window to the soul). This procedure often induces a mental state similar to a trance, which creates deep relaxation of the mind and body.

Relieves stress and strain related problems, slows aging, improves memory and nourishes the hair/scalp. Also prevents and cures paralysis, insomnia, nervous disorders and certain psychiatric diseases.

Pizhichil

Pieces of linen dipped in warm medicated oils are squeezed on the body in a special rhythmic movement. This therapy is a combination of two classical Ayurvedic treatments, Snehana (oleation) and Swedana (sweating). Pizhichil is considered as the most natural method to purify different body systems.

For rheumatic diseases, spastic muscular disorders, sexual weakness, blood pressure and nerve-weakness. Prevents scales/wrinkles and promotes healing of fractures.

Mukhalepam

This is an intensive head, neck and face treatment. Relieves stress/tension in the face by working on marma points, applying herbal skin purification plaster and herbal inhalation therapy.

  Mukhalepam

This holistic facial detoxifies, cleanses and nourishes the system to enhance beauty from within. Makes the face glow by preventing wrinkles and improving skin tone.

Shariralepam

First oil massage is done along the energy channels - this loosens and liquefies congested matter in the tissues. Then herbal oils are 'dripped' to awaken the energy seated at the base of the spine. Afterwards lepam is applied all over the body followed by a wrap in banana leaves to maintain warmth. Finally the lepam is washed off and then skin nourished with milk or plant-gel based lotion.

Shirovasti

Medicated oil/other liquids are retained within a cap fitted around the head.

For facial paralysis, diseases of the head and neck, neuralgia, optic atrophy, ear-ache, deafness, baldness, premature graying of hair and all disorders affecting cranial nerves.

Kativasti

Medicated oil is filled and then retained in a receptacle over the lower back made with black gram paste.

A special technique aimed at providing relief to the lower back, this treatment is useful for chronic and acute backaches, prolapsed disc, lumbar spondylosis, osteoporosis, sciatica and gynecological problems.

Elakkizhi

Fresh leaves are fried with several other herbs, tied into boluses, dipped in warm medicated oil and vigorously rubbed all over the body to induce sweat.

For chronic back pain, wasting diseases, joint stiffness/swellings, paralysis, muscular pain, sciatica, spondylosis, sprains and cramps.

Navarakkizhi

Navara rice (a special type of rice) is cooked to paste in a mixture of  cow's milk and herbal decoctions. It is then tied into boluses, dipped in the same mixture (cow's milk and herbal decoctions) and vigorously rubbed all over the body to induce sweat.

  Navarakkizhi

Enhances physical consistency, strengthens the nerves and improves the appearance of the skin. Also for nervous disorders, rheumatism, osteoporosis, arthritis and malnutrition of limbs.

Herbal Steam Bath

Every part of the body except the head is exposed to herbal steam.

This produces sweat, dilates the channels of the body and facilitates easy removal of impurities from the system through excretory outlets like the sweat glands, kidneys and liver. When done after a treatment, it also helps the absorption of medicinal particles present in the herbal oil. The steam bath gives greater flexibility and suppleness to the body and reduces stiffness and swelling. Body becomes light due to elimination of excess water.

Karnapooranam

Lukewarm oil is poured into the ears or medicated fumes are directed into the ears.

For infections affecting ear and head, especially pain and puss formation in the ear.

Netra Tarpanam

Medicated ghee is filled and then retained in a receptacle made over the eyes with black gram paste.

Prevents eye-diseases, especially night-blindness and blurring of vision. Also sharpens vision, strengthens optic nerve and cools down irritated and stressed eyes.

Shiropichu

Cotton pad soaked in medicated oil is placed on the head and kept moist with warm oil.

For facial palsy, headache, insomnia, poor memory, dermatitis of the scalp, dandruff, neurological disorders, paralysis and skin disorders such as eczema.

Talam

Herbal powder mixed with medicated oil is applied on the crown of the head.

For insomnia, migraine, burning-sensation of the scalp, weak sight, skin disorders and ear/nose/throat problems.

Kaval

Retention, movement and gargling of medicated oil or decoction in the mouth.

For any kind of mouth, voice or teeth disorders. Also clears ear, nose and throat pathways.
